Painters Eleven: Mixed Media Abstract Expressionism

Lesson length time: Two Hours

Lesson Objective

Learning about the members of the Painters 11 and looking at their artwork, students will discuss the role of colour, line and shape in abstract expressionist art. Students will then be encouraged through constructive play based learning to express themselves through making an abstract acrylic painting.

Materials

  • Pencil, eraser

  • Scissors

  • White glue or glue stick

  • Papers for sketching – A4 size or similar 

  • Any one painting medium – watercolours / acrylics / tempera / gouache 

  • Paintbrushes, water cup, rag, paint palette

  • Assorted papers for collage – construction paper, magazines, newspapers, fliers (in a variety of colours)

  • A4 size (or similar) cardstock or thick paper as a base (if available)

  • This lesson can be customized upon request if the painting medium is not available

Learning Outcomes

Students will:
