Lesson Objective

Pead is a fabric artist who uses old hockey gear, clothing and equipment to construct landscapes inspired by Canada’s two well known pastimes: hockey and landscape painting. In this lesson the students will be making landscape “fabric paintings” using textiles, fabric and yarn. This lesson covers the elements of design: space (specifically horizon line), line, colour and texture.

Learning Outcomes

Students will:

  • learn the art of collage techniques

  • explore elements of design (shape and form, space, line, colour, texture and value)

  • explore principles of design, particularly contrast (gr. 1), repetition and rhythm (gr. 2), variety (gr. 3),  emphasis (gr. 4), proportion (gr. 5), balance (gr. 6), unity and harmony (gr. 7),  movement (gr. 8).

  • learn about a local Toronto artist and their art

  • have an opportunity to explore with materials and concepts

  • be encouraged to create art in a comfortable and supportive environment

  • apply critical thinking skills in their analysis of art work and creative thinking skills in the creation of their own art work
